Jaipur in its present form is a very young city, just 280 years old, having been founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the then ruler of Amber. Being in the thar desert, Jaipur has semi-arid climate and faces all four seasons, like most of North India. Summer being hot and winter is cold, the best time to travel is October to March. However, the climate here is not extreme, with highest ever recorded temprature being 45°C, and lowest 1°C. June to September months get monsoon rainfall.

Travel within the city by auto-rickshaws, taxis or even on cycle-rickshaws. Autorickshaws are quick and economical and prepaid facility is available at several locations.
