The Pink City of Jaipur is a part of the Golden Triangle of India, otherwise also known as Delhi, Agra and Jaipur tour on the international travel circuit. Jaipur in its present form is a very young city, just 280 years old, having been founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the then ruler of Amber. It is the capital of the State of Rajasthan, the Jaipur District and also the former capital of the princely state of Jaipur. However, the history of Jaipur as Jaipur State, goes back to the year 1097, said to be the year of its founding. Jaipur is a remarkable pre-modern Indian city, having been built according to the principles of Hindu Architectural principles called Vaastu. The regularity and width of its streets, laid out into six quarters separated by broad streets 111 ft (34 m) wide is amazing. Pink City title of Jaipur is a reference to the multitude of buildings painted pink, in imitation of the sandstone used extensively in Mughal architecture. Due to its uninterrupted history of nearly a thouasnd years and its numerous charms, Jaipur is a must see place for the tourists coming to India. Travellers to Jaipur are spellbound with its palaces, forts & temples; a rich and colourful history and tales of bravery and valour. The architecture has both Hindu and Mughal influences. Jaipur is also the hub for further travel into Rajasthan. Reaching Jaipur Located 260 kilometers from India's capital New Delhi, Jaipur is accessible by a direct international flight from Dubai and is well connected through domestic airlines with all major Indian metros and towns. With three railway stations, Jaipur has tain connections with all major palces of tourist interest, viz. Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, and Chennai. It is also extremely well connected by road. Travel on National Highway 8, from Delhi, is smooth and quick, taking only four hours by car or bus. Jaipur Climate Being in the thar desert, Jaipur has semi-arid climate and faces all four seasons, like most of North India. Summer being hot and winter is cold, the best time to travel is October to March. However, the climate here is not extreme, with highest ever recorded temprature being 45°C, and lowest 1°C. June to September months get monsoon rainfall. Intra city travel Travel within the city by auto-rickshaws, taxis or even on cycle-rickshaws. Autorickshaws are quick and economical and prepaid facility is available at several locations.
