Due to its location in the geographical centre of Rajasthan, Jodhpur forms a hub for tourists to travel around the state. Jodhpur has an amalgamation of Hindu, Mughal and other influences on its architecture, art and culture. Jodhpur monuments, fairs and festivals make it an important part of the travel circuit in India and Rajasthan. Situated on the foothills of a sandstone hill, Jodhpur seems like an oasis in the desert. The famous Umaid Bhawan Palace, among India's most imposing palaces, the Mehrangarh Fort, Osiyan Temple, Jodhpur International Desert Kite Festival, Marwar Festival, and Nagaur Fair are all must visit in Jodhpur. Jodhpur has a rich history though it is not very old. Founded in 1459 by Rao Jodha, a rajput chief, it later became a fief of the mughal empire and even later, it entered into a subsidiary alliance with the British empire.
